Bio-Based Lab Consumables — Pipette Tips and Petri Dishes Without the Plastic Legacy

A single research lab can discard millions of pipette tips and petri dishes a year — precision products used for minutes and landfilled for centuries. Greenstar, BioStar's U.S. subsidiary, is extending its biopolymer platform into bio-based lab consumables: pipette tips, petri dishes, and related single-use items molded from renewable materials instead of polypropylene.

The fit is natural. BioStar's core competence is precision biopolymer formulation and molding — the same disciplines behind its compostable packaging lines — and its joint laboratory with Zhejiang University anchors the materials science. For universities, research institutes, and diagnostics companies reporting Scope 3 and lab-sustainability metrics (such as My Green Lab programs), bio-based consumables address one of the most visible waste streams in the building.

Development and supply are B2B, by specification: formats follow standard tip and dish geometries used by major liquid-handling systems.
