Leadership
Dr. Ramani Narayan
Founder and Chief Scientific Advisor
A pioneer in biobased materials, Dr. Narayan introduced the "Biomass/Biobased" concept and led the industrialization of Polylactic Acid (PLA).
His vision promotes environmental health by reintegrating organic carbon into soil, while he founded the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).
He also shaped the U.S. BioPreferred program and chairs ASTM and ISO committees, setting global standards for degradable plastics.

Michigan State University
Under Dr. Narayan’s leadership, BMRG pioneered the Coca-Cola PlantBottle, starting with 30% bio-based content in 2015 and influencing the 100% version in 2021.
It also contributed to the U.S. BioPreferred program, aligning with federal sustainability goals and achieving up to 50% lower carbon emissions.
The group’s research drives innovative material solutions, bridging academic excellence with practical industry applications.
Bio-Polymer Research Lab
Zhejiang University
The lab develops advanced biodegradable polymers, collaborating with ZJU’s campus for interdisciplinary research and innovation.
It works with government to align with regional sustainability policies and engages society through educational outreach on green materials.
Partnerships with businesses help commercialize products like antibacterial polylysine, turning research into marketable solutions.
